I've been in London this week running a training course for Learning Tree. I need some entertainment on those trips and on Wednesday I went down to the Royal Vauxhall Tavern for the comedy evening.
I had an ulterior motive - I wanted to see Shappi Khorsandi. By some Google based magic I had discovered she was on that night. I caught a few snatches of Shappi's act on radio over Christmas and I had decided I would treat myself to a live show. There was bound to be an evening when her touring schedule and my work schedule would have us in (vaguely) the same town.
It was my first time at this kind of show and I didn't really know what to expect. The evening was hosted by Zoe Lyons. She was wandering about in the pub before we started, looking slightly concerned. It really was like that old joke about the football team. "When does the match start?" "When do you want to arrive." I think the performers and staff really did outnumber the audience. There were 12 of us. "We'll start a bit later she said" - it didn't take long to get around all of us - "I'm hoping there will be a bus along soon."
The performers did well. With such a small group it's hard to get too much interaction going but they coped well and I had a good night out. Oh yes; I did enjoy Shappi's act. Going to see her again in Reading soon.
